When setting up your environment, the first decision to make is whether to place the towers inside or outside. Each choice carries a certain array of Considerations we would like to draw your attention to before deciding on the location.
Indoor Setup:
Select a location that has enough vertical space to accommodate the height of the Hydronect Tower. Ideal spots include balconies, or a dedicated indoor garden area.
Natural sunlight can be limited indoors, so consider placing your tower near windows that receive ample sunlight throughout the day. If natural light is insufficient, investing in high-quality grow lights is essential.
Indoor environments offer the advantage of controlled temperatures. Ensure the room temperature is suitable for the plants you are growing, typically between 65-75°F (18-24°C) for most plants.
Outdoor Setup:
Choose a location that can support the tower's weight and size. Patios, balconies, rooftops, or backyard gardens are excellent options
Outdoor setups generally provide ample natural light. However, consider the direction and duration of sunlight exposure. Most plants require at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. If your location doesn’t meet this requirement, you might need to supplement it with outdoor-rated grow lights.
Ensure your tower is placed in a sheltered area to protect it from strong winds, heavy rain, or extreme temperatures. You may also consider using a greenhouse or protective covering during adverse weather conditions.
Ensure Access to a Power Source

Assemble the Tower
Assembling the Hydronect tower is hassle-free and straightforward. The tower comes with a comprehensive handbook that provides detailed, step-by-step instructions, allowing you to easily assemble it on your own. The clear guidelines ensure that even those with minimal technical skills can successfully set up the tower without any difficulties.
Plant Selection and Placement
When deciding what to grow in the Hydronect towers, it's crucial to consider how the environment will affect plant growth. Your setup should match the light, temperature, humidity, space, and nutrient needs of your chosen plants. By aligning your plant choices with the environmental conditions of your tower setup, you can optimize growth and maximize yields.
Consider Plant Types: The Hydronect Tower is versatile and can support a wide variety of plants. Popular choices include:
- Leafy Greens: Lettuce, spinach, kale, and arugula.
- Herbs: Basil, mint, parsley, cilantro, and oregano.
- Vegetables: Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and beans.
- Flowers and Fruits: Strawberries, dwarf varieties of fruits, and edible flowers like nasturtiums.
Growth Requirements: Select plants that have similar light, nutrient, and water requirements to ensure harmonious growth within the same tower.
Starting from seeds offers you complete control over the entire growth process of your plants. Begin by germinating seeds in a controlled environment, such as seedling trays filled with a soilless medium like rock wool or coco coir. It's crucial to provide adequate light and moisture to facilitate sprouting. Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves and established strong roots, they are ready to be carefully transplanted into the Hydronect tower. This method ensures optimal conditions for healthy growth and robust plant development throughout their lifecycle.
Opting for established seedlings from a nursery saves time and jump-starts your hydroponic garden. Before transplanting them into the Hydronect system, ensure to rinse off any soil from their roots to prevent contamination. This step maintains the system's cleanliness, promoting optimal plant health and growth from the start.
Prepare the planting slots on the tower by securely inserting the designated planting cups. If planting seeds directly into the tower, fill the cups with a soilless medium and follow specific depth and spacing guidelines for each plant type. For transplanting seedlings, gently place them into the cups, ensuring their roots are supported by the medium and positioning them so the base of each plant is level with the top of the cup. This method ensures a stable and conducive environment for plant growth within the Hydronect system.
